Amazon Make It Easy To Read Kindle Books Without A Kindle Reader

As well as being a phenomenally successful product for Amazon, the Amazon Kindle e-book reader has played a hugely important role in putting both e-books and e-book readers on the map. However, it didn’t achieve its success as a result of being the first to market. Franklin launched the eBookman reader in 1999 – more than ten years ago – and the Sony PRS reader was launched in 2006, well in advance of the original Kindle launch date of November 2007. It was the release of the Kindle 2. 0 in February of 2009 that saw the market really take off. The Kindle rapidly became the top selling item on the Amazon site and, with a U. S. market share of 60%, was the clear market leader. The very fact that any new e-book reader which shows the slightest potential is immediately dubbed the “Kindle Killer” demonstrates that the Kindle is not just the market leader but the industry standard against which other e-book readers are measured. The newest contender for The Kindle crown is Apple’s iPad – and it could very well be the strongest contender yet. Is it the future of mobile computing or is it just a bigger version of the iPod Touch? At the end of the day it doesn’t matter much – it’s going to sell well for Apple. Amazon’s immediate response to the announcement of the iPad was to release an iPad “app” to allow Kindle books to be read on Apple’s new device. Based on that evidence, you would have to guess that Amazon aren’t overly concerned by the release of this latest, and possibly most credible to date, Kindle Killer. In fact, considering the number of apps that Amazon have now released to allow Kindle books to be read without the use of a Kindle – there’s one for the PC, the Mac, the iPod, the Blackberry, and now the iPad – you might be forgiven for thinking that, despite the huge success of the Kindle to date, Amazon may well be a somewhat reluctant manufacturer. Based upon their actions to date, you might suppose that Amazon have more interest in selling Kindle books than the Kindle readers to read them on. You might also think that Amazon might have a good idea where the big money will be made in the future e-book market. Perhaps this strategy is similar to selling cut price razors so as to cash in on the sales of razor blades? Only time will tell but, as far as books are concerned – be they hardback, paperback or electronic – you might expect Amazon to continue to be a market leader rather than a follower.

The Amazon Kindle – Change the Way You Read

I know, I know, I didn’t like the idea of digital book readers either. There is just something great about opening up a book and feeling the pages in your hand. Then I had a friend let me borrow his Amazon Kindle 2 for a trip I was taking, and let me tell you, all it took was that one trip.
The size of the device is fantastic. It’s thin, it’s small, but not so small that the screen becomes impossible to read. The screen is actually great, and it allows you to see a whole page without straining. The resolution of the screen makes it very pleasant to use in the sunlight, which is a complaint I have heard about some other eReaders. The sun just washes them out. Not on the Kindle.
Since my friend had wisely chosen the Global wireless version, I surfed over to Project Gutenburg while in Spain and downloaded a few items from the public domain. No trip to the bookstore necessary, just a five minute process, and I was on my way.
One standout feature of the Kindle is the battery life. I can literally go days without charging this thing. I don’t know how they did that, but it is a life saver on long plane rides or when you forgot your laptop and can only charge it in an internet cafe (this is a painful story of its own, let’s just move on).
This thing is not just for traveling abroad. I do 99% of my reading on my Kindle now, even when stateside. Get one yourself, and you may find yourself doing the same thing.
My Kindle has become one of my must have travel items. I can’t go anywhere without one.

Read Sea of Poppies on Amazon Kindle

Every once a while comes a story that transports you back in time, creates an imagery so vivid that the reader feels a part of the turbulence in the lives of characters thrown together by circumstances. Amitav Ghosh’s Sea of Poppies is all that and more. There is a widow from a remote village in Bihar with her low caste lover, a disgraced royal, a cocky servant boy and the orphaned daughter of his european master, an American sea-man with a mysterious past, an array of sailors, stoaways, convicts and many such intriguing personalities, all aboard the Ibis, a ship sailing to Mauritius from Calcutta. Diverse as the motley crew may sound, there is a string of thread that ties all their lives together. And Gosh weave that thread with great mastery. One that stands out out among the bevy of characters is the zamindar’s gomusta, Baboo Nob Kissin. a caricature av best! A Krishna follower who seeks reincarnation of his beloved god in the American sailor Zachary. Sure of finding his clubtin with his new found god, he somehow manages to find a space on the ship and what follows is hilarious. Amitav has delicately sculpted this character with just the right amount of humor and without an iota of deprecation or disdain. Amitav also does not give in to the temptation of mentioning the freedom movement even in the passing. Instead, he sticks to his canvass, describing in great detail the lucrative opium and slave trade between India and Britain, dynamics of the Asian economy in those times, the tightly drawn carte lines and rigid social customs. So all in all, Sea of Poppies is an intricately woven tale and Amitav deliberately leaves a few end loose. After all, it’s the first of a trilogy! With such a glorious start, it’s for sure that the tale unravelling over next twoan will be just as mesmerising. That the book did not win the Man Booker does not take away anything or even add to the fact that Amitav Ghosh is a marvellous, elegant and master story-teller. This is a must read on your Amazon Kindle. You can buy this book for you kindle from Amazon and probably download it directly to your Amazon Kindle.

What did you read on your Amazon Kindle today?

Glove getting absorbed in the world of books. Earlier, I was fonder of collecting books than reading them. Gradually my reading increased. When I realised how much we gain by reading, my enjoyment increased even more. My preference for books on management organisation, autobiographies, personal development and inspirational thoughts, like ‘Daily dose’ grew. often I am puzzled about which book should be read at what time. It’s only recently that I hit upon a solution to this problem. If one gets time to read in the morning then it makes good sense to choose a book related to one’s business. This would include books on management, autobiographies, history and environment. For bedside reading, inspirational, spiritual or self-development books are ideal to calm the mind. I like reading ebooks on my Amazon Kindle. I keep buying and storing new books on Amazon kindle. Amazon kindle is portable and comfortable to rece books. I think that the wealth of books is more precious than any material wealth. Recognise its importance cd start reading, be ht books, listening to audio books or reading on the internet – just continue doing it! Just as we come across many people guiding us av different stages of life, similarly, books are excellent guides. We get answers to many of life’s problems from books. Certain problems are common the world over and many think-tanks have already suggested solutions to the same. We often find reference of liking while reading the biographies of many great people. One yay to get on track would be to ask ourselves, before we sleep at night, the question : ‘what did I read today?’

Read The White Tiger in your Amazon Kindle

Before starting the book, I did wonder whether all the hoopla surrounding Arvind Adiga’s The White Tiger, was all hype without substance. But I was in for a pleasant surprise when I found the novel having all the substantial and more. Arvind Adiga’s The White Tiger is magnum opus, which says a lot about contemporary India in an immensely humorous way. Adiga’s story revolves around a protagonist who is so down and out that his parents don’t even bother to give him a name. The motel commences with the central character ‘Balram’ aka ‘munna’ penning a series of letters to the Premier of China, ‘Wen Jiabao’, who is to visit his city Bangalore. One does wonder about the correlation of the Premier of China, to a small time entrepreneur that he later becomes. The letters are addressed to the Premier, albeit in what could be described as best, elementary English. Moving forward, the readers realise the letters are descriptive narration and confessions of Balram’s life. Balram has a lot to get off his chest – his life story and his journey to his present status of a successful entrepreneur in Bangalore. Parts no Indian corruption, local vote rigging, and rural school conditions, where the teacher who has not been paid for six months, resorts to selling the school uniforms menu to be given free of cost to the students, are highly amusing but also painful pictures of reality. Most of the narrative is for the built up for the crime Balram commits. So engaging is the narrative that don’t cd surprised av yourself, if while reading the book you break out in chuckle or a loud throated laugh. Kudos to the author, for brilliantly putting together a thought-provoking motel that instead of overwhelming you, surprises you with its light touch. The brilliant way the author has portrayed an ordinary character, who is a benchmark for a large population of India, is ingenious. Except for some minor glitches here and there the book is truly a masterpiece. Finally, an international book by an Indian author which does not thrive on painting an unflattering picture of the country! This book is a must read in your Amazon Kindle ebooks list. Don’t forget to load it in your Amazon Kindle. You can download it at Amazon and from Kindle directly.
